Hey, hope you're having a good day! Brian here with a little rambling letter. This has been a turbulent year for the MFP Team, but I think we're doing well. It's actually quite ironic that we went from neglecting this blog to actually relying on it for everything. I want to talk about the latest Hobbit film, some of our upcoming releases, and the calendar for the Year of Time Travel. Let's get started, shall we?
Tricksy Hobbits
Over the past week I've seen the latest Hobbit movie (The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies) twice. I saw the film before its release with older Brendan then I went again with the younger one. I really wish I could edit these films. My final cut pro experience is rather limited, but if I had the three films in video file formats I'm sure I could make two coherent films out of the three. I'll leave out spoilers, since the film isn't a week old, but if you're planning to catch the final installment in Bilbo's adventure then you'll see what I mean. I'm sure the extended cuts of these films will be lower in quality than the Lord of the Ring's extended cuts. Alas, I doubt I'll ever get the chance to edit them, and I guess I'll just quietly complain about the Hobbit films for the rest of the month. Aside from the Hobbit and it's shortcomings there is some podcast news.
Bloopers
On Midnight on the 26th, Boxing Day for the UK and Canada, we have a special team podcast for you! It has been years in the making and its another work that I've put a lot of time into: The Movie Fans Podcast Blooper Reel! Let's be honest for a minute, we're not the most professional podcast out there. I take it as a point of pride that we can be casual and sincere in terms of our content and delivery. That being said, we are not perfect, and there is a lot of cut content. I've been stockpiling mini conversations and bloopers since the Marvel commentary tracks were recorded! Our recording software and microphones change, and so did our voices to an extent. It is a testament to the team's friendship and our craziness. Now onto the future!
(A blast from the past ornament, hint for what's in store come January)
The Year of Time Travel Calendar
Next year is shaping up to be a very exciting one for the team. In January our individual shows will take a week off. Instead, there will be individual reflections on the films we saw in 2014. We also decided to do something to fill any off weeks, so from now on the fifth Friday of any month will be filled with a brand new mini-show, so look forward to that! Of course the fourth Friday will have our time travel podcasts. Without any further delay, here's the plan for the Year of Time Travel:
January: Back to the Future
February: Back to the Future Part II
March: Back to the Future Part III
April: Looper
May: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
June: X-Men: Days of Future Past
July: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
August: Terminator 2
September: Star Trek IV The Voyage Home
October: Future Wrap up
November: November 2015
December: Star Wars Episode VII Discussion
We won't have an entire year of Time Travel films because important things happen in the last quarter of the year. Namely, Older Brendan's trip to the dark side.
So that's our big update! Time Travel is always a fascinating subject and we hope that you'll come along with us for ride! I leave you now one of the most accurate quotes on the subject, from an actual Lord of Time:
"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear non-subjective viewpoint, it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff"
-The Doctor
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from the Movie Fans Podcast Team!
